Extending the Operational Reporting Data Model

You can modify the operational reporting data model to incorporate the specific needs of your Sterling™ Order Management System installation by extending the catalog.

Before you extend the data model, see the IBM® Cognos® Analytics documentation to understand how to use the product and then apply that knowledge for the data model. Be sure to create a backup of all components that are going to be modified.
Note: If you want to use the out-of-the-box model to customize or extend, copy the out-of-the-box model, rename this copied model, save in a different folder, and then publish the changes.
The Data Model is extended by adding, deleting, or renaming fields, tables, or entities. You can extend the application-provided Data Model to include custom columns or tables from the Sterling Order Management System database.
Note: If you create any new Data Models, you must upload them to a subfolder in the shared directory.
To customize the default data model provided by Sterling Order Management System, see Customizing the SMCF-Analytics Model.

Adding fields and tables

You can add fields and tables in Business Intelligence. For more information, see the IBM Cognos Analytics documentation.

Deleting or renaming fields and tables

Ensure that you do not delete or rename the objects that exist in the catalog that are delivered with operational reporting. If you delete the objects, it can create compatibility problems with future versions of the framework components. However, if it is necessary to delete some objects, follow the guidelines that are provided in the IBM Cognos Analytics documentation.
Note: You do not need extra license to use any of the inbuilt Cognos tools, which includes the framework manager.
