Reserving products for a quote

You can check the availability or inventory options for products that belong to a quote and then make product reservations. This enables you to promise product availability to the customer when a quote is converted to an order.

Before you begin

  • The quote for which you want to reserve inventory must be a primary quote.
  • The quote must be in either Approved or Created status. The options to check availability and reserve inventory are not available for quotes in the Abandoned or Ordered statuses.

About this task

After you create a primary quote with products and bundles, reservations can be made for products that belong to the quote.

Procedure

  1. Log in to Sterling™ Field Sales.
  2. From the application sidebar menu, click Quotes.
  3. The Quotes home page is displayed. Expand the Search Criteria panel and enter the appropriate search criteria.
  4. Click Search. The search results display quotes matching the search criteria.
    • If only one quote matches the search criteria, the Quote Details screen is displayed.
    • If multiple quotes match the search criteria, the list of quotes is displayed in the Search Results panel. Click the corresponding Quote Name hyperlink. The Quote Details screen is displayed.
  5. The Quote Details screen is displayed with the Products tab highlighted.
  6. From the Actions menu, select Check Availability. The Check Availability window is displayed. In the Fulfillment Details tab, the quote lines are displayed with inventory details such as quantity, shipping date, current availability, and reserved quantity.
  7. In the Expiration Date field, select a date when the reservation should expire.
  8. Click Reserve.
    An appropriate message is displayed indicating that the reservation has been confirmed. An information message in also displayed along with the Reservation ID. The Reserved Quantity and the Expiration Date are displayed for the quote lines.

    You can click Close to close the window.

    Note: If the quote has been modified post earlier reservations, an appropriate message in displayed on the Check Availability window indicating that the reservation is out of sync. In such cases, you need to cancel the existing reservations and make reservations again.
