Define the fulfillment details for sourcing and transporting an item
For an item, you can the define fulfillment details such as sourcing information, transportation information, fulfillment methods, node notification time, shipment consolidation window, release time before the shipment, whether freezing is required, whether shipping by air is required, and so on.
About this task
You can define all the fulfillment details of an item from the Fulfillment Information screen. The item's sourcing information is displayed under the sourcing area, while the item's transportation information is displayed under the transportation area. For a bundle item type, details about how the bundle item must be shipped and delivered are displayed under the bundle fulfillment area.
To define the fulfillment details for an item:
Procedure
- Navigate
to the Fulfillment Information screen. To navigate to the Fulfillment
Information screen, perform the following steps:
- Log in to Sterling™ Business Center as an Item Administrator.
- The application home page is displayed. Click the Products tab.
- From the Products home page, click Find Item in the Catalog dashlet.
- In the Item Search screen , enter the search criteria, and then click Search to view a list of all the available items. Alternatively, use either the Basic Search or the Advanced Search option to narrow down the list of items displayed.
- In the Items panel that is displayed, click the Item ID hyperlink. Alternatively, double-click the row containing the Item ID.
- The Primary Information screen is displayed. In the Related
Tasks panel, click Manage Fulfillment Information.
The Fulfillment Information screen is displayed.
- In the Sourcing area, perform the
following steps:
- In the Working hours box, enter the advance notification time for the item, which is used during the release process. A communication to ship the order must be made to the shipping node or supplier before the defined number of hours, which is the maximum number of hours, before the expected shipment date.
- In the System days box, enter the advance notification time for the item, which is used during the release process. A communication to ship the order must be made to the shipping node or supplier before the defined number of days, which is the maximum number of days, before the expected shipment date.
- In the Time Before The Expected Shipment Date When A Node Must Be Notified (In Days) box, enter the minimum notification time for the item, which is used to determine the earliest ship date on the line. A communication to ship the order must be made before the defined number of days, which is the least number of days, before the expected shipment date.
- In the Time An Available Item Can Be Delayed For Consolidation (In Days) box, enter the number of days an item can be delayed after it becomes available to be consolidated as a single shipment. This is used by to schedule items for shipment.
- From the Assume Infinite Inventory During Promising drop-down list, select the applicable option.
- From the Shipping Allowed drop-down
list, select one of the following options to specify if shipping is
allowed:
- Yes: Select this option if shipping is allowed.
- Only if delivery is not allowed: Select this option if you want to allow shipping only if delivery is not allowed. Ensure that you select No from the Delivery Allowed drop-down list after selecting this option.
- No: Select this option if shipping is not allowed.
- From the Forwarding Allowed drop-down list, select the applicable option to specify if the item can be forwarded for zone skipping.
- From the Delivery Allowed drop-down
list, select one of the following options to specify if delivery is
allowed:
- Yes: Select this option if delivery is allowed.
- Only if something else is being delivered: Select this option if something else is being delivered. For example, in an order, if the Delivery Allowed option for two items, A and B, are defined as Item A has delivery allowed, and Item B has Only if something else is being delivered, then both Item A and Item B are delivered. However, in an order, if the Delivery Allowed option for two items, A and B, are defined as Item A has no delivery allowed, and Item B has Only if something else is being delivered, then Item B is also not delivered.
- No: Select this option if delivery is not allowed.
- From the Procurement Allowed drop-down list, select the applicable option to specify if the item can be procured for zone skipping.
- From the Pickup Allowed drop-down list, select the applicable option to specify if pickup is allowed.
- From the Item Substitution On Order
Allowed drop-down list, select the applicable option to determine
if substitution of item is allowed during scheduling. If the value
is Yes, schedule automatically attempts to substitute an item with
either the preferred substitute or the regular substitute. Note: If the item is associated with a classification purpose that inherits the item fields and no value is selected in the field, then the value that is inherited from the classification purpose is used. This inherited value is displayed as the selected option to the field.
- In the Transportation area, perform
the following steps:
- From the Requires Freezer drop-down list, select the applicable option to specify if the item requires freezer storage during transportation.
- From the Shipping By Air Allowed drop-down list, select the applicable option to specify if the item can be shipped by air.
- From the Parcel Shipping Allowed drop-down
list, select the applicable option to specify if parcel shipping is
allowed for the transfer of the item. Note: If the item is associated with a classification purpose that inherits the item fields and no value is selected in the field, then the value that is inherited from the classification purpose is used. This inherited value is displayed as the selected option to the field.
- If the item is of type bundle, then in the Bundle
Fulfillment area, select one of the following radio buttons:
- Ship Together - Select this radio button to ship all the components in a bundle item together.
- Ship Independently - Select this radio button to ship all the components in a bundle item independently.
- Deliver Together - Select this radio button to deliver all the components in a bundle item together.
Note: Ensure that the fulfillment options of a ship together Bundle item is the same for both the parent and component items in the bundle. - Click Save.
Note: If you do not enter values for the different options, then default values are automatically populated when you click Save.
