Assign a value to an attribute in a category

You can specify values for each item attribute in a category only if it belongs to a master catalog. For example, for the Television category, you can assign Size, Type, and so on as item attributes. You can also assign multiple values to an attribute, such as for a Size attribute the values can be 21 inches and 32 inches.

About this task

    1. Log in to Sterling™ Business Center as an Item Administrator.
    2. The application home page is displayed. Click the Products tab.
    3. From the Products home page, click Manage Catalogs in the Catalog dashlet.
    4. The Catalog List screen is displayed. Click the Catalog ID hyperlink corresponding to the catalog for whose category you want to assign an item.

The Catalog Management screen is displayed.

  2. From the Catalog Hierarchy tree, select the corresponding category.
  3. In the Related Tasks panel, click Manage Attribute Assignment.
  4. The Attributes panel is displayed. Click the Attribute Name hyperlink pertaining to the attribute to which you want to assign a value.
  5. The details of the attribute are displayed. Depending on the data type, you can perform the following to assign an attribute value:
    • If it is a text data type, enter the new value in the respective field.
Note: When the number of allowed values defined for a text attribute is less than or equal to 30, a drop-down list is displayed. If the number of text attribute value exceeds 30, the drop-down list is replaced by a text box with a search icon. You can use this search icon to search for a text attribute value. When you click the search icon, the Allowed Values Search dialog box is displayed. Enter the text attribute value or the text attribute value description to search for a text attribute value, and click Search. A list of allowed values that matches your search criteria is displayed. Select the required text attribute value, and click Select. Use the Delete icon adjacent to the search icon to clear the existing text attribute value.
    • If it is a Boolean data type, select or clear the respective check box.
    • If it is a number data type, enter the new value in the respective field.
    • If the multiple values are allowed for the attribute, click the Modify hyperlink. In the Select Multi Attribute Values dialog box that is displayed, perform the following steps:

      i. Click the Add icon to add another value.

ii. From the drop-down list that is displayed, select the required value.

iii. To add multiple values, repeat step i through step ii.

      iv. Click Select.

The selected values are displayed in the Values box in the Attribute panel.

Tip: To remove a value, click the Delete icon adjacent the respective value.

      Notes:

    • Although there are three basic data types, the way each of these is displayed depends on how the attributes are configured in the Attribute Management. Example - for a number data type, the values may be listed as a drop-down list, instead of a text box.
    • If an attribute assigned to a category contains a default value, this value is displayed by default in the corresponding field of the Attribute Management screen pertaining to the category. However, unless you click Save, this value is not assigned by default to the items in that category.
    • If the number of values in the drop-down list is greater than thirty, a text box will be displayed instead of the drop-down list.
  6. In the Attributes panel, click Save.

The value is assigned to the attribute.
