Add an asset to a category

Assets are electronic media objects that you associate with items, categories, attributes, and attribute values. Asset types include images, video, audio, and text files.

About this task

You must specify the content location for each of the assets. Typically, assets are digitally-based objects that reside on external systems. For example, you can assign an image file to a category that is available from an online catalog so that online customers can view an image that represents this category. In such a scenario, you must provide a content location for the image file. Content location is the path that identifies the location of the image file.

You can add an asset to a category from the Catalog Management screen.

To add an asset to a category:

Procedure

  1. Navigate to the Catalog Management Screen. To navigate to the Catalog Management screen, perform the following steps:

    2. The application home page is displayed. Click the Products tab.
    3. From the Products home page, click Manage Catalogs in the Catalog dashlet.
    4. The Catalog List screen is displayed. Click the Catalog ID hyperlink corresponding to the catalog for whose category you want to assign an item.

The Catalog Management screen is displayed.

  2. From the Catalog Hierarchy tree, select the category to which you want to associate an asset.
  3. In the Related Tasks panel, click Manage Category Assets.
  4. The Category Assets panel is displayed. Click Add.
  5. The Asset Detail dialog box is displayed. Perform the following steps:

    3. In the Long Description box, enter a detailed description of the asset.
    4. From the Server drop-down list, select the server on which this asset type is located. The drop-down list is either populated by all the available server locations, or the codes that are configured in the Applications Manager.
Note: If you need to access assets that are located externally (such as an external URL), ensure that you specify a secure URL (such as using HTTPS) to avoid mixed content issues.
    5. From the Type drop-down list, select the asset type. If the selected asset type pertains to an image, the preview of the corresponding image is displayed in the Assets panel after the server and the filename have been specified.
    6. In the File box, enter the name of the file.
    7. Click Save.

The asset is added to the category.
