You can define child items for a variation item. Child items are items that share common
attributes with the parent item, but have an additional set of unique properties. For example, if
the parent item is a short-sleeved shirt, the possible child items are small red short-sleeved shirt
and medium red short-sleeved shirt.
About this task
The child
item details are displayed in the Items Details screens as part of
the variation item details.
You can add a child
item by selecting from an existing item in the catalog.
To add an existing item as child item to a variation
item:
Procedure
- Navigate to the Instructions
screen. To navigate to the Instructions screen, perform the following
steps:

Log in to Sterling™ Business Center as an Item
Administrator.
- The application home page is displayed. Click the Products tab.
- From the Products home page,
click Find Item in the Catalog dashlet.
- In the Item Search screen , enter the search criteria,
and then click Search to view a list of all
the available items. Alternatively, use either the Basic Search or
the Advanced Search option to narrow down the list of items
displayed.
- In the Items panel that is displayed,
click the Item ID hyperlink. Alternatively, double-click the
row containing the Item ID.
- The Primary Information screen is displayed. In the Related
Tasks panel, click Manage Variations.
The Instructions screen is displayed.
- In the Variations panel,
click Add.
- In the Item Search dialog box that is displayed,
click Search to view a list of items available.
Alternatively, use either the Basic Search or Advanced Search option
to narrow down the list of items displayed.
- Select the item from the list, and click Select.
- A new row is added in the Variations panel.
Define values for the attributes that are displayed.
Notes:
- The attributes that are displayed depend on the
configuration done from the Classification Management. For example,
for a shirt item, the following may be the attributes configured:
Style, Size, Color.
- You cannot define multiple values of an attribute
for a child item.
- Click Save to add
the child item to the variation item.
The
existing item is added to the variation item as a child item.
