Maximizing coupon value

You can specify whether a coupon or discount applies to the highest priced item or the lowest priced item in a customer’s purchase. This adjustment can pertain to a single occurrence, all occurrences, or each combination of the qualifying item.

The following tables show examples of how the coupon or discount would be applied when the target is the highest priced item.

10% off single occurrence of highest priced printer in purchase
Item Unit price Qty Promotion
applied?
Total
Brand A Office Printer/Fax/Scanner $299.98 2 Y $599.96 - $30 = $569.98
Brand A Home Printer $249.98 1 N $249.98
10% off all occurrences of highest priced printer in purchase
Item Unit price Qty Promotion
applied?
Total
Brand A Office Printer/Fax/Scanner $299.98 2 Y $599.96 - $60 = $539.98
Brand A Home Printer $249.98 3 N $749.94

The "each combination" option refers to combination promotions, such as "Buy 2 Brand A Office Printer/Fax/Scanners and get 10% off a Brand A Home Printer." So if a customer buys 5 of Brand A Office Printer/Fax/Scanners, he can get 2 of Brand A Home Printers at 10% off.

All of these examples would be configured as an ITEM_QUANTITY rule.
