Defining order sourcing classifications

A sourcing classification for orders represents customizable sourcing criteria that are used to determine a node to ship a product at a scheduled time.

As part of the sourcing rules classification, you can configure a custom parameter that is high in the sourcing-priority ladder. To determine the sourcing rules, on an order document match the sourcing rule value to the sourcing classification attribute.

The following examples describe the order-sourcing classifications:
  • An enterprise can ship products from several retail stores. To avoid cross-border complications, such as import duty or delays due to merchandise checks, the enterprise do not want to source products from a store that is outside of the country. To accommodate such restrictions, in the sourcing logic that you can specify a custom parameter, such as the customer name or customer attribute for the order-sourcing classification.
  • For a specific business you can consider future inventory when an order is being sourced from stores. You can use a custom attribute in the sourcing classification and configure sourcing rules to use only the on hand inventory in stores. You can then create orders with the appropriate sourcing classification value such that the inventory restrictions are honored.
