Scenario: Buy products online

This scenario illustrates the procedure that is followed when a customer purchases a product from an online portal.

The customer does not have an account. The customer creates an account by providing the personal details and becomes the member. On creating an account, the customer record is created and maintained in Sterling Order Management System Software.
The customer performs a product search by entering the appropriate search criteria. The product search is performed in Sterling Order Management System Software. As a result of the search, the product details and inventory availability are displayed.
If inventory is available for the selected product, the customer adds the product to the cart. A draft order is created in Sterling Order Management System Software.
The customer checks out. The draft order is confirmed.

Sterling Order Management System Software can be configured to reserve the product added to the cart so that the product is reserved for the customer. During the order fulfillment process, product reservation is consumed during the scheduling process. The inventory is hard allocated that changes the inventory picture.

The customer can select the appropriate fulfillment method and carrier service for the product to be delivered or choose to pick up the product from a nearby store. Not applicable.
The customer is guided to the payment screen where the customer can select a preferred payment method to pay for the product. The selected payment method is added to the draft order.
The customer confirms the order. An email notification is sent to the customer and a tracking number is generated.
The customer can track the order status based on the tracking number as it flows through the fulfillment process in Sterling Order Management System Software. Not applicable.
The customer enters the shipping address and selects the appropriate fulfillment method. Based on the shipping address and preferred fulfillment method that is provided by the customer, the product is shipped either to a distribution center (DC), warehouse, or store appropriately.

An invoice is created for the order that is placed by the customer.

Based on the tracking number, the customer can track the order status as it flows through the fulfillment process in Sterling Order Management System Software. Not applicable.
Result: After the payment transaction is successful, the order is confirmed and the customer receives the product on the promised date.
