Creating a segment type

You can create a inventory segment type in Sterling™ Business Center to consume unsegmented inventory when segmented quantity is insufficient. Demands that are created against a custom segment type can optionally consider unsegmented inventory.

Before you begin

Ensure that you have configured the Use Enhanced Segment Based Allocation segment rule before you create a new segment type. For more information, see Configuring segment rule.Configuring segment rule

Procedure

  1. Log in to Sterling Business Center as an Inventory Administrator. The Home page is displayed.
  2. In the Switch to drop-down menu in the upper right corner of the screen, select the inventory organization for which you want to set up segment rule.
  3. Click the Inventory tab. The Inventory page is displayed.
  4. Click Manage Segments in the Allocation Segment Types dashlet. The Allocation Segment Types screen is displayed.
  5. Click Add. The Allocation Segment Types Details screen is displayed.
  6. In the Allocation Segment Types Details dashlet, enter the required details in the Segment Type, Segment Short Description, and Segment Long Description fields.
  7. Select the Use Enhanced Segment Based Allocation check box to indicate that this segment type can consume from unsegmented inventory.
  8. Select the Save icon in the upper right corner of the screen to save your new Segment Type.
