Creating a segment type
You can create a inventory segment type in Sterling™ Business Center to consume unsegmented inventory when segmented quantity is insufficient. Demands that are created against a custom segment type can optionally consider unsegmented inventory.
Before you begin
Ensure that you have configured the Use Enhanced Segment Based Allocation segment rule before you create a new segment type. For more information, see Configuring segment rule.Configuring segment rule
Procedure
- Log in to Sterling Business Center as an Inventory Administrator. The Home page is displayed.
- In the Switch to drop-down menu in the upper right corner of the screen, select the inventory organization for which you want to set up segment rule.
- Click the Inventory tab. The Inventory page is displayed.
- Click Manage Segments in the Allocation Segment Types dashlet. The Allocation Segment Types screen is displayed.
- Click Add. The Allocation Segment Types Details screen is displayed.
- In the Allocation Segment Types Details dashlet, enter the required details in the Segment Type, Segment Short Description, and Segment Long Description fields.
- Select the Use Enhanced Segment Based Allocation check box to indicate that this segment type can consume from unsegmented inventory.
- Select the Save icon in the upper right corner of the screen to save your new Segment Type.
