Additional ad hoc reporting considerations

Use the following tips, best practices, and additional considerations for developing reports using the Ad Hoc package.

Do not use facts that span more than one namespace

When you build a report in Cognos® Workspace Advanced, only apply facts (measures) within a single namespace.

For example, do not build a report that includes a fact from the SalesOrderLine and try to apply this fact to the attributes from the ShipmentLine. Cognos Workspace Advanced returns a cross-join error message if you try to apply a fact across more than one.

This restriction only applies to facts. You can apply attributes from more than one in a report. For example, you might combine reporting elements from the SalesOrderLine, ShipmentLine, and Quote lines in the IBM Adhoc Package.

If you run a query which contains a fact table across more than one namespace, then you will receive a cross-join error message.
