Isolating the Business Intelligence data from analytics
About this task
Typically, users who use Business Intelligence and IBM® Cognos® Analytics prefer to separate the Business Intelligence data from Analytics and grant read-only permissions to the Analytics data source because:
- Users do not want to risk the unauthorized usage of the database user name or password or both of the Sterling Selling and Fulfillment Foundation in Analytics.
- If the user name or password or both of the Sterling™ Order Management System Software changes, the Analytics data source must be modified.
To overcome these limitations, users must create and expose tables without having the need for the Sterling Order Management System Software user name or password or both.
To separate the Analytics data from the Foundation tables:
Procedure
- Grant select privileges to a non-Sterling Order Management System Software administrative user (for example, yanalytics).
- Create synonyms under the yanalytics schema.
- Create or modify the Analytics data source to point to the yanalytics schema.
