Multi-divisional corporation

The multidivisional corporation model is a business corporation whose primary focus is managing purchase and sales activities.

A typical multidivisional corporation can be a buyer, a seller, or both. It could also be a retailer, a manufacturer, or both. Whatever form the multidivisional corporation takes, it normally has multiple channels with different types of customers, such as, consumers, retailers, dealers, and original equipment manufacturers.

The Internet has significantly altered this picture, with manufacturers able to go online to sell directly to consumers, and the role of suppliers to each retailer changing to include a host of different and hybrid fulfillment models.

In the multidivisional corporation model, each division might be set up as an Enterprise in Sterling™ Order Management System Software. This setup allows both segregation of transactions by division and global visibility at the corporate level. Each Enterprise configures their own business rules, workflow, and transaction processing.
