Manually add an instruction to an item

You can provide instructions pertaining to shipping and storage for an item.

About this task

You can create a free - form text instruction when there are no preexisting item instruction code or when you want to create a special instruction for an item. For example, if the item is very fragile and requires extra packing, then you may want to create an instruction stating, Make sure that the item is double bubble wrapped.

You can manually add an instruction to an item from the Item Instructions screen.

To manually add an instruction to an item:

Procedure

  1. Navigate to the Instructions screen. To navigate to the Instructions screen, perform the following steps:
    1. Log in to Sterling Business Center as an Item Administrator.
    2. The application home page is displayed. Click the Products tab.
    3. From the Products home page, click Find Item in the Catalog dashlet.
    4. In the Item Search screen, enter the search criteria, and then click Search to view a list of all the available items. Alternatively, use either the Basic Search or the Advanced Search option to narrow down the list of items displayed.
    5. In the Items panel that is displayed, click the Item ID hyperlink. Alternatively, double-click the row containing the Item ID.
    6. The Primary Information screen is displayed. In the Related Tasks panel, click Manage Instructions.

      The Instructions screen is displayed.

  2. From the Manage Instructions for type drop-down list, select an instruction type to view all the instructions pertaining to the selected instruction type. The list displays all the configured item instruction types.
  3. In the Instructions panel of the Item Instructions screen, perform the following steps:
    1. Click Add.
    2. The New Instruction dialog box is displayed. In the Details area, select the Enter text manually radio button.
    3. In the Text* box, enter the instruction text.
    4. Click Save.

      Note: * indicates that the field is mandatory.

      The instruction is added manually to the item.
