Define inheritable attribute fields

You can define inheritable attribute fields in a classification. These are fields that are inherited by the items in the corresponding classification.

About this task

The inheritable attribute fields can be defined in a classification only if you have assigned the Inherited Item Attributes purpose to the corresponding classification.

You can define inheritable attribute fields from the Classification Management screen.

To define inheritable attribute fields:

Procedure

  1. Navigate to the Classification Management screen. To navigate to the Classification Management screen, perform the following steps:
    1. Log in to Sterling Business Center as an Item Administrator.
    2. The application home page is displayed. Click the Products tab.
    3. From the Products home page, click Manage Classifications in the Catalog dashlet.
    4. The Classification List screen is displayed. Click the Classification ID hyperlink corresponding to the classification from which you want to assign a usage.
    5. From the Classification Hierarchy tree that is displayed, select the corresponding classification value.

      The Classification Management screen is displayed.

  2. In the Related Tasks panel, click Manage Inheritable Fields.

    The Classification Value Inheritable Fields panel with various tabs is displayed. If you do not want to assign a value to the fields in the tabs, you can select the following options from the corresponding drop-down lists:

    • Inherit from parent classification - Select this option if the corresponding classification value has a parent classification value. In such a scenario, the value defined for the parent classification is inherited by the corresponding field in an item belonging to the classification. The corresponding field in the Inheritable Fields panel remains blank.
    • Use default value - Select this option if the corresponding classification value does not have a parent classification value. In such a scenario, the default value defined for the attribute is inherited by the field in an item belonging to the classification. The corresponding field in the Inheritable Fields panel remains blank.
  3. Perform the following steps in the Promising area:
    1. From the ATP Rule drop-down list, select an ATP rule. The parameters defined in the selected ATP rules are used to determine the available inventory for this item.
    2. From the ATP Monitor Rule drop-down list, select an ATP Monitor rule to use for this item. The minimum inventory levels for this item are based on the parameters set up for the selected ATP Monitor rule.
    3. From the Node Level ATP Monitor Rule drop-down list, select a Node Level ATP Monitor rule to use for this item. The minimum inventory levels for this item are based on the parameters set up for the selected Node Level ATP Monitor rule.
    4. From the Use Unplanned Inventory drop-down list, select the appropriate option to allow the unplanned inventory pertaining to this item to be used.
    5. In the Lead Days box, enter the amount of time (in days) that will be taken to procure the item and make it available for shipping. If this field is left blank, the default value is taken as 30.
    6. In the Onhand Safety Factory area, perform the following steps:
      • - Select the Percent radio button, and enter the percentage of inventory for this item that you want to exclude from on-hand inventory availability.
      • - Select the Units radio button, and enter the quantity of inventory for this item that you want to exclude from on-hand inventory availability.
    7. From the Item-Based Allocation Allowed drop-down list, select the appropriate option to allow item-based allocation for an item from the drop-down list. When the Use Item Based Allocation rule is enabled, the item-based allocation is applicable only for the items and nodes that have the Item Based Allocation Allowed attribute enabled.
    8. In the Future Safety Factor Percentage box, enter the percentage of inventory for this item that you want to exclude from future inventory availability.
  4. Click the Inventory Attributes tab, and perform the following steps:
    1. From the Default Product Class drop-down list, select the product class.
    2. From the Track FIFO in Inventory drop-down list, select the required option. This indicates that inventory is tracked using the First In First Out (FIFO) number, which is automatically generated by the system.
  5. Click the Sourcing tab, and perform the following steps:
    1. In the Working hours box, enter the advance notification time for the item, which is the number of hours an order for this item should be released prior to the expected time of shipment.
    2. In the System days box, enter the advance notification time for the item, which is the number of days an order for this item should be released prior to the expected time of shipment.
    3. In the Time Before The Expected Shipment Date When A Node Must Be Notified (In Days) box, enter the minimum number of hours before which a node should be notified before the expected time of shipment.
    4. In the Time An Available Item Can Be Delayed For Consolidation (In Days) box, enter the number of days by which an item can be delayed after its availability date in order to consolidate its shipment with that of other items.
    5. From the Assume Infinite Inventory During Promising drop-down list, select the required option.
    6. From the Shipping Allowed drop-down list, select the required option to specify if shipping is allowed.
    7. From the Delivery Allowed drop-down list, select the required option to specify if delivery is allowed.
    8. From the Pickup Allowed drop-down list, select the required option to specify if pickup is allowed.
    9. From the Forwarding Allowed drop-down list, select the required option to specify if forwarding is allowed.
    10. From the Procurement Allowed drop-down list, select the required option to specify if procurement is allowed.
    11. From the Supersession On Order Allowed drop-down list, select the required option to specify if supersession on order is allowed.
    12. From the Gift Wrap Allowed drop-down list, select the required option to specify if gift wrapping is allowed.
  6. Click the Returns tab, and perform the following steps:
    1. From the Accept Returns For This Item drop-down list, select the required option to specify if the item can be returned.
    2. In the Allow on when the item is returned within <number of days> day(s) of purchase box, enter the number of days within which the item can be returned after it is purchased.
  7. Click the Transportation tab, and perform the following steps:
    1. From the Requires Freezer drop-down list, select the required option to specify if the item require freezer storage during transportation.
    2. From the Shipping By Air Allowed drop-down list, select the required option to specify if the item can be shipped by air.
    3. From the Parcel Shipping Allowed drop-down list, select the required option to specify if parcel shipping is allowed for the item.
  8. Click the Sales tab.
    • From the Eligible for Shipping Discount drop-down list that is displayed, select the required option to specify if the item is eligible for shipping discount.
  9. Click the Other tab.
    • The fields are displayed only if you have added extended attributes to the item. In the text boxes that are displayed, enter the appropriate values.
      Note: These text boxes are displayed based on the data type selected for the extended attributes.
  10. Click Save.

    The inheritable attribute fields are defined.
