Journal data sets
To display journal data sets, select the Journal Datasets option (J) on the Files path or enter fast path F.J from any panel.
The CICS® Journals
summary display shows all journals allocated to CICS. The display includes the following fields:
- Journal Name
- Name of the Journal.
- Journal Status
- Status of the journal, which can be one of the following conditions:
- Ena Conn - Enabled and connected
- Ena Disc - Enabled and disconnected
- Disabled - Journal has been disabled
- Failed - A log stream failure has occurred
- Unknown - Journal status can not be determined
- System Log
- Indicates whether the journal is the CICS system log
- Journal Type

- DUMMY - Records are not written to any log stream.
- MVS™ - Records are written to an MVS logger log stream.
- SMF - Records are written to the MVS SMF log stream.
- MVS Log Stream Name
- Log stream name
You can limit the journal display to a specific journal by entering JCT= or JOUR= selection parameters after the LOG command. For example, LOG JCT=DFHLOG limits the journal display to the DFHLOG journal and LOG JOUR=DFHSHUNT limits the journal display to the DFHSHUNT journal. For a more detailed display of the journal log stream, place the cursor on the log stream name and PF11 to zoom to the Log Stream Statistics display.
