Changes for the V4.3.0 release

Several changes were made for version 4.3.0 of Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/VM and Linux.

The following changes were made for the Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/VM and Linux V4.3.0 release:
  • Self-describing agent support
  • Support for Single System Image (SSI) clusters, available in z/VM®
  • Support for Live Guest Relocation (LGR), available in z/VM
  • Support for SCSI emulated FBA devices, available in z/VM

The Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/VM and Linux V4.3.0 agent is built on IBM® Tivoli® Monitoring V6.3.0 Fix Pack 7 libraries. This is the minimum level required for the agent to connect starting from Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/VM and Linux V4.3.0 FP4. The agent is capable of running in autonomous mode. For information about parameters to set for an autonomous agent, see the IBM Tivoli Monitoring Administrator's Guide.

For information on added functions from the V4.2.0 release, see Changes from previous releases.

Tivoli Management Services (Self-describing agent)

The Tivoli OMEGAMON XE on z/VM and Linux agent is installed with self-describing support enabled. When the agent connects to a Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server that supports self-description, the application files are automatically synchronized. Application file updates are also deployed to the portal server.

SSI cluster support

The SSI cluster name is included in monitoring data that is collected by the agent. This provides the capability to filter data by SSI name for real-time Tivoli Enterprise Portal workspaces and historical reports.

Each agent instance monitors a single LPAR in the cluster. To monitor the entire SSI cluster, each LPAR must be monitored by its own agent instance.

Live Guest Relocation (LGR) support

Live Guest Relocation (LGR) information is included in monitoring data that is collected by the agent.

SCSI emulated FBA device support

Small computer system interface (SCSI) emulated Fixed Block Architecture (FBA) device information is included in monitoring data that is collected by the agent.
