Overview

IBM Z Monitoring Suite is a suite of integrated offerings that provide real-time and historical monitoring and availability management of the z/OS infrastructure and key subsystems, such as CICS, IMS, Db2, WebSphere Application Server for z/OS, and MQ for z/OS.

Maintaining Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for your mainframe data center is critical to the business success of your organization. An efficient, integrated monitoring system can help ensure the availability, health, and efficiency of the IBM zSystems environment that forms the backbone of your business operation.

IBM Z Monitoring Suite includes a common user interface such as Tivoli Enterprise Portal (TEP) and OMEGAMON Enhanced 3270 user interface that helps you integrate information from the operating system, networks, and storage subsystems into a single workspace. This integrated capability provides in-depth analysis and composite alerts from multiple areas, enabling the identification of problems and their prompt resolution. By using this integrated management suite, you can foster greater communication and manage the z/OS platform more efficiently.

All the members of the IBM Z Monitoring Suite require Tivoli Management Services on z/OS at a minimum of version 6.3.0 Fix Pack 6.

IBM Z Monitoring Suite includes the following product components:

For details, see the following documentation:

IBM Z OMEGAMON AI for z/OS 6.1
OMEGAMON AI for z/OS provides detailed monitoring and problem management for IBM zSystems. By combining metrics data collected from components such as the IBM z/OS Resource Measurement Facility, Workload Manager, Coupling Facility, Cross System Coupling Facility, Global Enqueue, shared DASD, and USS workload, users can monitor and manage these key subsystems. It provides the visibility, usability, and performance required to make managing these environments and components more efficient and effective, thereby preventing or reducing downtime due to outages.
IBM Z OMEGAMON AI for Networks 6.1
OMEGAMON AI for Networks helps you to proactively monitor and manage the network performance of z/OS system resources and mission-critical applications. It senses poor or unstable network connections that hamper application performance and helps to pinpoint root causes to ensure high availability of services and improve user productivity. OMEGAMON AI for Networks enables the management of multiple IBM z/OS mainframe systems and network stacks from a single interface to improve user productivity and operational scalability.
IBM Z OMEGAMON Integration Monitor 5.6
OMEGAMON Integration Monitor displays performance information from a variety of sources, including OMEGAMON monitors and third-party software, in a single location. It delivers near real-time and historical information and the operating system and key subsystem performance. You can use a single-screen view of all situation alerts to rapidly identify the root cause of complex issues involving multiple subsystems. OMEGAMON Integration Monitor includes IBM Z OMEGAMON Data Provider:
  • IBM Z OMEGAMON Data Provider makes OMEGAMON attributes available to applications and analytics platforms outside of OMEGAMON. OMEGAMON attributes are the metrics that OMEGAMON monitoring agents collect about the performance, behavior, and resource usage of systems and applications on z/OS. IBM Z OMEGAMON Data Provider extends the existing OMEGAMON attribute collection process by introducing output methods that you can use in addition to, or instead of, the OMEGAMON persistent data store (PDS):
    • JSON Lines over TCP. Example use: ingestion by analytics platforms such as Splunk and the Elastic Stack.
    • Prometheus endpoint. Example use: Grafana dashboards.
    • JSON in Apache Kafka topics. Example use: any Kafka consumer.
IBM Z OMEGAMON Data Provider publishes attributes as they are collected. The data frequency is determined by your choice of attribute collection interval, from 1 minute to 1 day. IBM Z OMEGAMON Data Provider currently supports attributes from only one monitoring agent, OMEGAMON AI for z/OS. However, IBM Z OMEGAMON Data Provider is designed to be extended to support other agents.

For more information on the capabilities, features, and benefits of OMEGAMON Data Provider, see OMEGAMON Data Provider documentation.

IBM Z Automation Web Console 1.2.0
IBM Z Automation Web Console, previously known as IBM Service Management Unite, is a customizable dashboard interface that brings mainframe management information and tasks from disparate sources into a single environment. It gives system programmers, operators, and administrators a transparent view of system health status and allows for easy problem identification. The console enables operators to see monitoring alarm threshold events, called situations in OMEGAMON monitor, so that they can identify critical problems. Operators can quickly and confidently analyze, isolate, and diagnose problems by providing all relevant data in a single location. IBM Z Automation Web Console also enables operators to interact directly with the system by issuing commands and viewing results without going to a different console.
IBM Resource Measurement Facility
IBM Resource Measurement Facility (RMF) collects data and produces reports for activity in a sysplex. Among its other reports, it can use the data that is provided by z/OS Workload Manager to produce reports by service class and report class. IBM Resource Measurement Facility consists of many components. These include three monitor components (Monitor I, Monitor II, and Monitor III) that collect data from the sysplex and produce reports. Additionally, the Postprocessor component can produce reports by using IBM System Management Facility data from the three monitor components, as well as from other sources.
IBM Z ChatOps 1.1.5
IBM Z ChatOps provides ChatOps capabilities for your IBM Z environment. It includes a chatbot that gives users access to the information from Z systems management tools, such as IBM Z System Automation and IBM OMEGAMON, within popular collaboration platforms like Slack. IBM Z ChatOps can be used to notify the operations team in the chat tool about IBM Z events, including recommendations that are powered by machine learning, to help isolate and resolve problems quickly. IBM Z ChatOps leverages and integrates with IBM Service Management Unite for broad access to IBM Z operations data. This also enables chat users to drill down from the chatbot output to web-based dashboards with more information to help resolve problems fast.
