Benefits

This section includes the benefits of using Dataset Attributes Database feature.

The database collects data regarding all datasets on all volumes in the z/OS® environment (except for volumes that you have excluded), so that you can perform the following operations:

• View comprehensive summary reports regarding general trends or specific low-level details.
• Identify exception conditions regarding datasets throughout the environment.
• Select datasets from a workspace view and initiate Storage Toolkit action commands against them.
• Obtain an installation-wide view of dataset space utilization, exceptional conditions, and summary statistics.
• Quickly identify resources that require attention, such as datasets that have excessive unused space, extents, or CA/CI splits.
• Avoid the use of utility programs that have limited ability to aggregate and display data, such as IEHLIST.
