Verifying a resolution
There are several ways to verify that a problem has been resolved.
As previously mentioned, you can implement a situation to automatically monitor specific attributes and alert you when the attributes exceed accepted values. This approach allows you to automatically verify the problem resolution and it potentially protects users from finding the same problem in the future.
You can also manually check the attributes by displaying the appropriate workspaces after subsequent data collections have been completed. If you choose to manually check the attributes, set thresholds on the attributes that you are interested in tracking. Setting thresholds allows you to highlight critical, warning and informational levels of the attributes and makes it easier to identify values in the table view. See the IBM Tivoli Monitoring: User's Guide book for more information about setting threshold values.
Another method for verifying problem resolution and tracking the values of attributes involves using short-term historical data collection. By using short-term historical data collection, you can track specific attributes for a period of time after the problem has been resolved. This allows you to view the values of the attributes over time to determine if the values are changing and possibly trending towards another occurrence of the problem.
If historical data collection has already been configured for the attribute group, the Time Span button ( ) is displayed in the View toolbar. Click the Time Span button to specify the time period you want to display. If the Time Span button is not displayed, you can configure historical data collection by clicking the History Configuration button () to open the History Collection Configuration window. See the IBM Tivoli Monitoring: User's Guide book for more information about configuring historical data collection and historical reporting.
