N3T_IP_Output_Discard_Pct

Output Discard Percentage is the percentage of IP segments that this TCP/IP address space sent to the network that was undeliverable and discarded during the most recent sampling interval. Output discards are datagrams that were discarded, including no route found errors and fragmentation failures.

Often this is an indication that more buffer space must be allocated for the interface. Excessive discards waste network resources. Analyze the errors reported in the IP Statistics, Interfaces, and OSA workspaces to further isolate the source of the problem.

A trace might be required to isolate the source of the discards. Discard reason codes (found in IBM(R) z/OS(R) Communications Server: IP and SNA Codes) may be used to filter the trace data to only show packets pertaining to issues discovered in the IP statistics and interface investigation. When the offending interface or application or both has been identified, see the IBM(R) z/OS(R) Communications Server: IP Diagnosis Guide to take corrective action.

Formula: Output Discard Percentage >= 3
