Configuring an agent address space

An agent address space can contain an agent, but does not contain a monitoring server. By configuring an agent in an agent address space, you enable the agent to report to either a monitoring server on a distributed platform or to a z/OS®-based monitoring server. You can configure each agent with its own agent address space.

About this task

Note: The Configuration Tool is no longer available. You use PARMGEN to specify the settings. See Updating agent and Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server protocols.

Procedure

  1. From the Configure panel for your product, select Specify Agent address space parameters.
The Configuration Tool displays the Specify Agent Address Space Configuration Values panel.
  2. Specify the configuration values for the agent address space as shown in the following table.
Table 1. Configuration values for the agent address space
    Component Description
Agent started task The name of the started task PROC for the agent. Note the name, which is required later in the configuration.
Connect to Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server in this RTE Specify Y if you want to connect to a monitoring server that is already configured in the same runtime environment as the agent. Specify N if you want to connect to a monitoring server in a different runtime environment or if you want to connect to a distributed monitoring server.
Note: If the agent reports to a non-local monitoring server, the agent must be installed in the non-local INSTLIB or CSI environment where the primary monitoring server is installed.
Name of Primary Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server Select or specify the name of the primary monitoring server to which the agent connects. The NONE value indicates no selection is made. You can specify either a remote or hub monitoring server as the primary monitoring server for an agent. To select the z/OS-based monitoring server to which the agent reports, press F10, and select one from the list. To specify a monitoring server in another installation library to connect to a distributed monitoring server, or to update the port number of the agent, press F10, then press F5 and complete the Specify Agent Primary TEMS Values panel as required.
Specify communication protocols in priority sequence Specify at least one protocol to be used by the agent to communicate with the primary monitoring server.
  3. Complete one of the following steps:
    1. To accept the values you already specified (accepting the defaults) and bypass advanced configuration, press Enter now. One or more communication protocol panels display next where you can specify communication values for each protocol that the agent address space uses.
    2. To specify advanced configuration values, press F5 and proceed to the next step.

Completing advanced configuration

  1. On the Specify Advanced Agent Configuration Values panel, override or accept the defaults for the following options.
Enable secondary Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server
Select Y to optionally designate a secondary monitoring server to which the agent connects if its primary monitoring server becomes unavailable, and then select or specify the secondary monitoring server. You can specify either a remote or hub monitoring server as the secondary monitoring server for an agent.
Note: If the agent reports to a non-local monitoring server, the agent must be installed in the non-local INSTLIB or CSI environment where the primary monitoring server is installed.
    Minimum extended storage
Specify the minimum extended (virtual) storage the agent acquires.
  2. Press Enter to accept the advanced configuration values. Press Enter again. One or more communication protocol panels display next where you can specify communication values for each protocol that the agent address space uses.
  3. After you specify the communication values, press Enter until you return to the Configure panel for your product.
