The OMEGAMON for IMS on z/OS infrastructure

The OMEGAMON® for IMS on z/OS® product uses the IBM Tivoli® Management Services infrastructure, which is also known as IBM® Tivoli Monitoring, or Tivoli Monitoring Services. The Tivoli Management Services infrastructure is an agent-server-client architecture that provides security, data transfer and storage, notification mechanisms, user interface presentation, and communication services for products in the IBM Tivoli Monitoring and IBM OMEGAMON suites.

Figure 1 illustrates the relationship between Tivoli Management Services components and monitoring agents.

This version of OMEGAMON for IMS on z/OS offers continued access to the Tivoli Enterprise Portal and the OMEGAMON for IMS (3270) and OMEGAMON for IMS Classic (3270) interfaces. You can also use the OMEGAMON enhanced 3270 user interface which provides workspaces that are designed to provide plex-wide and even cross-product data.

Not all Tivoli Management Services components are required to run OMEGAMON for IMS on z/OS. For example, you are not required to install Tivoli Enterprise Portal or Tivoli Data Warehouse in your environment to run OMEGAMON for IMS on z/OS. If you enable self-describing agents, you do not need the Tivoli Enterprise Portal but you must install the Tivoli Enterprise Services User Interface Extension to provide more diagnostic information. If you do not intend to run the Tivoli Enterprise Portal, but you plan to use the OMEGAMON enhanced 3270 user interface with the self-describing agent disabled, you must seed the hub monitoring server by using the Managing Tivoli Services Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server Advance dialog.

For more information about installing, configuring, and using Tivoli Management Services, refer to the OMEGAMON shared documentation, Version 6.3.0 Fix Pack 2 and above.
