New fields in ATF exception filter
In the Classic interface, the ATF exception filters have been improved to include two new fields:
  • Response time
  • Input queue time
These fields enable you to filter transactions by performance metrics, making it easier to identify exceptions related to transaction delays and response problems.

New parameters for the Application Trace Facility (ATF)

New parameters for the Application Trace Facility (ATF) have been implemented, allowing for customization of each IMS subsystem. These new parameters replace the earlier ones, as outlined in the following table:

Transition of KI2 parameters to Table format
The following parameters have been reinstated and are now transitioned to table parameters:
  • KI2_CLASSIC_ATFI2
  • KI2_CLASSIC_ATF_SANDBOX
  • KI2_CLASSIC_ATF_AUTORESTART
  • KI2_CLASSIC_ATF_ATFBUFF

If you have customized these parameters in your RTEDEF library, the Configuration Manager continues to use them until you migrate to the new KI2_I1nn_CLASSIC_ATF* table parameters. However, in PARMGEN, the KI2_CLASSIC_ATF* parameters have not been reinstated.

Additionally, the default values for the KI2_I1nn_CLASSIC_ATF* table parameters are now set automatically, and these parameters will no longer be added to the RTEDEF library during the DISCOVER action.

e3270UI ATF grouping update
The ATF Group By option in the e3270UI now includes a new value, NONE. When you select this option, the ATF summary data is shown without any grouping criteria. This update enables you to view all trace data together, making it easier to analyse transactions and identify issues that might not be visible when data is grouped.
Additional columns in the KIPATFT workspace
The KIPATFT workspace now includes two new sortable columns:
  • Response time
  • Input queue time
These columns improve visibility into transaction performance by showing how long each transaction takes to complete and how much time it spends in the input queue.
Sorting data in ATF Exception Trace with Detail
All columns in the ATF Exception Trace with Detail in the e3270UI are now sortable. This update provides flexibility for analyzing trace data by enabling you to reorder information based on any column.
Disabled Start Date/Time filter in KIPATFT
The Start Date/Time filter has been disabled in the KIPATFT workspace. This change simplifies the display of ATF transaction data by ensuring that records are no longer restricted by the filter.

IMSplex support in Commander
The IMS Commander workspaces KIPILOG and KIPILOGS now support IMSplex routing. When the IMSid field is left blank, IMS Type-2 commands are routed to all IMS subsystems in the IMSplex. Responses from each IMS are shown in the Console Output area. See IMS Commander workspace.

ATF support for AIB and ICAL in the Classic interface

ATF Extended DL/I information now includes the AIB essential fields and return codes for AIBTDLI interface, as well as the DFSAIB block contents. Additionally, for ICAL calls, ATF now reports the contents of ICAL areas specified on the call. The recorded content of each area is limited to first 128 bytes. The layout of ATVD/ATXD and ATVX/ATXX screens has been optimized to accommodate new data.

ATF now reports details of z/OS Connect (zCEE) outbound API calls, including return code, status code, and error message number
In this example, a zCEE API call has a description ZCEE CALL OUT, Return Code 2, Status code 500, and Status Error Message BAQR1145E (although the‘BAQ’ prefix is dropped, which is a constant for all outbound API messages).

New e3270UI workspace: User Structures for IMS (KIPUSTR)

The User Structures for IMS workspace has been added. The new workspace consists of the following two sub-panels. For each sub-panel, a detail view of any particular user can be obtained by selecting the appropriate row.

  • All: This sub-panel shows summary of all user structures dynamically or statically defined to the IMS.
  • In Conversation: This sub-panel shows summary of all users currently in a conversation.

You can navigate to the workspace by selecting: I - System Information and Resources from the Options Menu in the IMS Health for IMS workspace or the IMS Health for IMSplex workspace.

Near-Term History is enabled for both summary displays in the workspace.

Enhancement to e3270ui Fast Path Summary Workspace (KIPFPINF)

The Workspace now comprises five tabbed sub-panels that encapsulate all currently available performance metrics for any particular IMS-ID. The five tabs are:

  • Overview: This sub-panel provides an overview of Fast Path resource availability and shows a summary of Fast Path Dependent Regions. A detail view of any particular dependent region can be obtained by selecting the appropriate row.
  • DEDBs: This tab shows information for all Data-Entry Databases. It is the same information provided by the IMS Data-Bases Workspace (KIPDBS) and is duplicated here as a convenience.
  • MSDBs:This tab shows information for all Main-Storage Databases. It is the same information provided by the IMS Data-Bases Workspace (KIPDBS) and is duplicated here as a convenience.
  • VSO Spaces: This sub-panel provides a summary of each VSO Dataspace owned by the IMS-ID. Selecting a row will navigate the user to a summary view of any AREAS allocated to the parent dataspace. A detail view of any of the AREAS can be obtained by selecting the corresponding row.
  • Bal Groups: A summary of all the balancing groups defined to the IMS-ID is provided by this sub-panel. A detail view of any particular balancing group can be obtained by selecting its row.

You can now navigate to the workspace by selecting: I - System Information and Resources from the Options Menu in the IMS Health for IMS workspace.

New message coloring and suppression facility added to IMS Commander
  • IMS Commander has been enhanced to support message coloring, highlighting and suppression. The feature is implemented by processes in your installation's TEMA address space(s) that determine the color and disposition of messages collected by IMS Commander background tasks.
  • Functionality provided by the new feature replaces and enhances the I/CF Trap facility from the discontinued CUA interface of OMEGAMON II.
  • The new facility allows messages to be selectively highlighted or suppressed based on IMS ID and/or text pattern predicates, both of which can be specified generically. Messages can be either suppressed or assigned a color with the option of requesting reverse-video highlighting. Additionally, default colors can be assigned for commands, responses and messages in general.

Support of IMS FASTMON user exit
FASTMON is a new exit type introduced in IMS v15, as a high-performance alternative to the IMSMON type. The purpose of FASTMON is to significantly reduce the CPU overhead on monitoring IMS compared to IMSMON. Managed Systems Status workspace (KIP$PLX) and Managed Systems Status Details workspace (KIP$PLXD)
In an environment with multiple LPARs, there is only one IMSplex Agent active at any time. To determine the LPAR that owns the IMSplex agent is difficult and time consuming, because you must review each OMEGAMON for IMS on z/OS Agent STC RKLVLOG across the entire environment for the message KIPPIR78I This started task has been made the IMSplex level agent.

To locate the owning LPAR of the IMSplex Agent quickly, the Managed Systems Status workspace (KIP$PLX) is provided to display all managed systems. The managed systems can be filtered. Then you can navigate to the workspace and check a particular managed system for its Hostname that is resolved from the Host Address.
