Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server installation fails

If you see this error message display during the Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server installation on Windows: BuildPresentation failed: Refer to the Troubleshooting guide for troubleshooting help. After correcting the reason for failure, rerun BuildPresentation.bat from the CNPS directory and restart TEPS., complete the following steps to fix the failure.

Procedure

  1. Open Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Data Sources (ODBC).
  2. Click the System DSN tab.
  3. Remove any entries named teps, TEPS2, cnps, or CNPS2.
  4. In the ITM\InstallITM directory, run the utility named CNPSDataSource.exe and supply the requested IDs and passwords.
  5. If the utility program fails with an error, read the log file named TEPS_ODBC.log in the same directory and correct the problem.
  6. Click Start > Run and type regedit.exe.
  7. Go to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Candle\KFW\CNPS\KFWSRV\Environment.
  8. Look for the key named KFW_DSN. Verify that the key value is "cnps". If not, change the key value to "cnps". (Do not include the quotation marks.)
  9. Open a command prompt window and go to the ITM\CNPS directory.
  10. Run the batch file BuildPresentation.bat.

What to do next

If Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server was previously installed, complete the following steps to restore the customer workspaces and users.
  1. Click Start > Run and type regedit.exe.
  2. Go to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Candle\KFW\CNPS\KFWSRV\Environment.
  3. Select File > Export, and export this key to a file for backup.
  4. After exporting, select the item named DSC1, right-click it, and select Delete.
  5. Select the item named KFW_DSN.
  6. Change the KFW_DSN value to "teps" (do not include the quotation marks). Replace "teps" with a custom name only if you gave your previous database a different name.
  7. Run the utility ITM\InstallITM\CNPSDataSource.exe and supply the requested IDs and passwords.
  8. Start the Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server and verify that the users and workspaces are now visible.
