Enabling historical data collection

You can enable historical data collection in the Tivoli® Enterprise Portal or the OMEGAMON® enhanced 3270 user interface (enhanced 3270UI).

Information to help you understand the persistent data store and help you decide whether you want to collect historical data is provided in Decision 8: Whether to collect historical data and how to manage it, which is in the Planning section of OMEGAMON shared documentation, Version 6.3.0 Fix Pack 2 and above.

Enabling historical data collection in the Tivoli Enterprise Portal

The Tivoli Enterprise Portal can display historical data that is stored in the persistent data store and the Tivoli Data Warehouse. In addition, all attribute groups eligible for periodic sampling can be configured for historical collection within the Tivoli Enterprise Portal.

An attribute group that you enable historical collection for by using the Tivoli Enterprise Portal is also available for viewing and configuration by using the enhanced 3270UI if that attribute group is part of the subset of groups available for viewing near-term history in the enhanced 3270UI.

Refer to IBM® Tivoli Monitoring: Tivoli Enterprise Portal User's Guide for information about creating historical collections in the Tivoli Enterprise Portal.

Enabling historical data collection in the enhanced 3270UI

The enhanced 3270UI is designed for investigation of current problems or ones that occurred in the recent past. Therefore, only near-term historical data can be displayed in the enhanced 3270UI workspaces.

In addition, only a subset of OMEGAMON for IMS on z/OS® attribute groups are available to configure for historical data collection in the enhanced 3270UI. Historical data configuration is limited to the subset of groups that can typically be used for problem solving.

Attribute groups that you enable historical collection for by using the enhanced 3270UI are also available for viewing and configuration in the Tivoli Enterprise Portal. The attribute groups that you can configure for near-term historical data collection in the enhanced 3270UI are listed in the following table.
