This procedure is not required if the self-describing agent
feature is enabled. Otherwise, you must register your product with
the Tivoli® Enterprise Monitoring
Server to which it reports.
About this task
This procedure updates the Tivoli Enterprise
Monitoring Server to recognize newly installed products, that is,
register the product with the monitoring server, and initialize the
monitoring server with application data. Such data includes catalog
and attribute files to the Enterprise Information Base (EIB) tables
of the Tivoli Enterprise
Monitoring Server.
Procedure
Note: The Configuration Tool is no longer available.
You use PARMGEN to specify the settings. Review the information in
the OMEGAMON shared
documentation, Version 6.3.0 Fix Pack 2 and above.
The shared documentation includes various configuration scenarios
and it also includes information that describes how to add application
support to a monitoring server on z/OS®.
Use
the Register with local Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server option
in the Complete the Configuration panel if any
of these situations apply to your environment:
- If the Tivoli Enterprise
Monitoring Server and your agent are installed in the same runtime
environment, register the agent with the Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server and add
application support to the Tivoli Enterprise
Monitoring Server in a single operation that is run by the Configuration
Tool. When you select the Complete the Configuration option
from the Main menu, the Configuration Tool dynamically displays the Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring
Server application support requirements. The requirements that display
depend on how a particular product adds application support to the Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring
Server. See the topic that describes how to register an agent with
a local monitoring server on z/OS.
- If the agent is registered to a local z/OS remote Tivoli Enterprise
Monitoring Server that connects to a non-local z/OS hub Tivoli Enterprise
Monitoring Server, register the agent with the non-local z/OS hub Tivoli Enterprise
Monitoring Server. A non-local z/OS Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring
Server refers to a Tivoli Enterprise
Monitoring Server defined in another runtime environment as follows:
- The z/OS hub Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server is known
to the INSTLIB installation library.
- The z/OS hub Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server is defined
in another INSTLIB, or in another CSI, that is not accessible to this
INSTLIB installation library.
Note: The agent must be installed in the non-local INSTLIB or
CSI environment where the non-local z/OS hub Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring
Server is installed. If the primary Tivoli Enterprise
Monitoring Server is a remote Tivoli Enterprise
Monitoring Server and the remote Tivoli Enterprise
Monitoring Server reports to a z/OS hub Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring
Server, you must register the agent in the runtime environment where
the z/OS hub Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server is configured.
- The agent is configured to run in its own address space
and it reports to a non-local z/OS Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring
Server. A non-local z/OS Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring
Server refers to a Tivoli Enterprise
Monitoring Server defined in another runtime environment as follows:
- The hub or remote z/OS Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring
Server is known to the INSTLIB installation library
- The hub or remote z/OS Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring
Server is defined in another INSTLIB, or in another CSI, that is not
accessible to this INSTLIB installation library.
Note: The agent must be installed in the non-local INSTLIB or
CSI environment where the primary Tivoli Enterprise
Monitoring Server is installed, if the agent reports to the non-local
hub or remote. If the primary Tivoli Enterprise
Monitoring Server is a remote Tivoli Enterprise
Monitoring Server and the remote Tivoli Enterprise
Monitoring Server reports to a z/OS Hub Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring
Server, you must also register the agent in the runtime environment
where the z/OS hub Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring
Server is configured.
