About Version 5.5.0

OMEGAMON for DB2® Performance Expert 5.5.0 enables you to measure the efficiency of Db2 and optimize its performance. OMEGAMON for Db2 Performance Expert combines sophisticated response time tracking, reporting, monitoring and buffer pool analysis features with expert database analysis functions.

OMEGAMON for Db2 Performance Expert introduces the following support for Db2 13.

Monitoring SQL Data Insights accounting metrics
The SQL Data Insights feature in Db2 13 provides built-in cognitive functions that inject deep learning AI capability into Db2 SQL. OMEGAMON for Db2 Performance Expert monitors SQL Data Insights accounting metrics to:
  • Expose elapsed and CPU timers that are included in Class 2 elapsed and CPU times via monitoring and reporting
  • Represent only those portions that are spent executing the built-in scalar functions
  • Allow you to monitor accounting information using real time monitoring interfaces and batch reporting (ACCOUNTING)
Monitoring group buffer pool residency times
In Db2 13, new statistics counters for global and group buffer pool statistics storage areas have been added. These statistic counters include:
  • The average time a data area resides in a storage class before it is reclaimed
  • The average time a directory entry resides in a storage class before it is reclaimed
OMEGAMON for Db2 Performance Expert monitors average residency times in real time and supports BATCH record trace to give you a better understanding of the impact of new IBM zSystems hardware on your environment.
Note: This feature requires the latest zSystems hardware (z16).
Monitoring SET CURRENT LOCK TIMEOUT related Db2 changes
To improve concurrency control, Db2 13 introduces the CURENT LOCK TIMEOUT special register that can be set from an application or a Db2 system profile.
OMEGAMON for Db2 Performance Expert enables you to:
  • Receive real time and batch reporting capabilities for tracking the respective functionality in Db2 System Statistics and Accounting reporting areas.
  • View information about extensions in the Deadlock and Timeout Db2 events, which are exposed in the event exception E3270 UI workspaces and batch reports, as well as the PE Client Event Exception Processing Details panels.
  • Leverage IFCID 437 tracking of the SET CURRENT LOCK TIMEOUT statement is supported in Batch RECTRACE.
Monitoring long lock/latch holds to identify problematic resources

Although monitoring data consistency and control concurrency using the real time monitoring is possible, it is cumbersome to find the problematic resource holding a lock/latch for too long. For this reason, Db2 13 introduces a new data section in Accounting IFCID 3 that tracks the longest lock/latch waiter, the longest Service Task Wait, and the longest Page Latch Wait information for a completed Db2 thread.

With OMEGAMON for Db2 Performance Expert batch reporting and the Enhanced 3270 Thread History function, you can monitor this information from a historical perspective and improve application monitoring and Db2 serviceability.

Monitoring DBAT Termination Behavior statistics
Db2 13 provides a new DBAT Termination Behavior that allows for handling large DDF-based workloads better. As part of this support, OMEGAMON for Db2 Performance Expert:
  • Exposes new metrics in the Global DDF Activity statistics records that help to analyze and monitor the impact of this feature.
  • Helps to monitor these new metrics in both real time as well as BATCH by providing extended System Statistics workspaces and Report sections.
Monitoring Access Control Authorization Exit statistics
Db2 13 caches the successful execute on plan authorization checks when Access Control Authorization Exit (ACAE) is used for access control. Furthermore, Db2 adds a smarter algorithm for managing the authorization IDs in the plan authorization cache. This allows caching of more authorization IDs per plan.
Improvements related to the monitoring and reporting of the plan authorization cache provide evidence for a reduced RACF contention when checking for a plan EXECUTE privilege using OMEGAMON for Db2 Performance Expert.
Formatting and analyzing IFCID 396 index split information
With Db2 13, a new IFCID 396 is introduced to record more detailed information about an index split. When an index split is considered to be an abnormal split process (such as: total elapsed time of index split is > 1 second), a new IFCID 396 is generated that holds detailed information about this index split such as: DBID, PSID, member ID, URID, Page number, etc. This information helps identify the root cause of INSERT performance issues.
OMEGAMON for Db2 Performance Expert batch RECTRACE reporting allows you to format this new IFCID and help with analyzing the potential INSERT performance issue.
