Prepare for your upgrade

Use this checklist to get ready to upgrade your installation and migrate your repository.

The latest version of Operational Decision Manager is aligned with the newer versions of third-party applications such as Eclipse, Java™, and application servers. It also has newer features.

1. Learn about the migration scenarios
Before upgrading, you must assess the impact of the new version of Operational Decision Manager on your applications. Upgrading to a new version of Operational Decision Manager can require you to migrate your databases, application servers, or both. See Understand the migration scenarios.
2. Check system requirements
Before you install Operational Decision Manager, make sure that you have the required software and sufficient disk space (see Software requirements). For the most up-to-date information about the system and software requirements, see IBM® Operational Decision Manager detailed system requirements External link opens a new window or tab.
3. Check your current installation
Run Transformation Advisor to assess the state of your current installation. Transformation Advisor does several sanity checks on the rule projects and decision services in your Decision Center repository. In particular, it flags features that might prevent your projects from being migrated. Transformation Advisor also checks your rule artifacts to see how they align with common best practices. See ODM Transformation Advisor External link opens a new window or tab.
4. Check the alternatives to deprecated features
Check the list of deprecated features. The list might contain features in your current installation. You can use the list to find a newer feature to replace an older one. See Deprecated and removed features.
5. Archive unused files before migrating data
Use the archive repository tool to reduce the size of your in-use schema by removing the files that are no longer active in your repository. Active database files are used by the current rule projects, while inactive files are no longer used but still checked in queries. A smaller schema can improve the overall performance of Decision Center. See Archiving the Decision Center database .
