Starting Rule Designer

You can open Rule Designer from the start menu, or by running an Eclipse executable file or a script.

About this task

Rule Designer is an Eclipse-based development environment and can be started by running an Eclipse executable file in your installation directory. See Start menu shortcuts for more information about how to navigate to the shortcuts.

By default, Rule Designer opens in the locale of your operating system. If you want to change the locale, see Opening Rule Designer in a specific locale.

Note: On IBM® AIX®, Rule Designer runs in headless Eclipse, which means that you can start it only from the command line.

Procedure

  1. Open the appropriate Eclipse for your Rule Designer:
    • On Windows, start the designer from the start menu:
      • Windows 10 or later: Click Start > All Programs > <ODM> > Rule Designer 9.6.0.
      • Windows 11: Click Start > All apps > <ODM> > Rule Designer 9.6.0.

    • On Mac, start the designer executable in your installation repository: <InstallDir>/shortcuts/MacOS.
    • On operating systems that do not have a Start menu, go to a command line, change the directory to the directory that contains the startup program (~/IBM/Rule Designer), and start it from the command line ./eclipse &.
      Tip: To pin Eclipse to the launcher on Ubuntu, search for Eclipse in Dash and then drag the program to the launcher.
  2. Switch to the appropriate perspective for Rule Designer by opening the Rule perspective in Eclipse.
