Installing the ready-to-use Rule Designer

This installation contains Rule Designer and all its prerequisite software: Eclipse, Java, and required plug-ins. It supports Windows, Linux, and macOS.

Before you begin

You must have access to the GitHub repository Rule Designer releases External link opens a new window or tab.

About this task

You install the ready-to-use version directly onto your computer. It is fully functional and works like the version that is installed in an existing instance of Eclipse.

Procedure

  1. Download the ready-to-use version from the GitHub repository Rule Designer releases External link opens a new window or tab.
  2. Select the compressed file whose name includes the suffix for your operating system:
    Operating system Suffix
    Windows (win32) win32.win32.x86_64.zip
    Linux (linux) linux.gtk.x86_64.zip
    macOS (macosx) macosx.cocoa.aarch64.zip
  3. Extract the contents of the file and copy them to your preferred location.
  4. (macOS only): Remove the quarantine attribute by running the following command:
    xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine RuleDesigner.app
    Important: This step does not apply to Windows or Linux.
  5. Run Rule Designer.
    Depending on your operating system, use one of the following commands to run the component:
    Operating system Command
    Windows ruledesigner.exe
    Linux executable ruledesigner
    macOS RuleDesigner.app

What to do next

You must pair Rule Designer with Rule Execution Server and Decision Center in your Operational Decision Manager installation.
