Working with Microsoft Office
Rule Solutions for Office supports different versions of Office.
Rule Solutions for Office (RSO) is deprecated in V8.8.1. This feature will be removed in a future release of the product. See Deprecated features for migration details.
Rule Solutions for Office works with Versions 2007, 2010, and 2013 of Microsoft Excel and Word. When you install Rule Solutions for Office, you extend Excel and Word with add-ins that provide rule viewing, editing and management features for the RuleDocs.
Differences between versions of Office
The versions of Office are essentially the same. However, there are differences to be aware of. For example, the File tab in Office 2010 replaces the Office Button of Office 2007, and the File menu used in earlier versions of Office.
Multiple versions of Office
If you have more than one version of Office on your computer, the Rule Solutions for Office Word and Excel shortcuts listed in your Start menu might not open the version of Office that you prefer to work with. To open a RuleDoc in your preferred Office version, open Word or Excel that you want to work with before opening the RuleDoc.
Properly associate your files
If you have Word and Excel viewers, make sure that your .docx and .xlsx files are associated with your Word and Excel applications. Word and Excel viewers can include other office productivity applications that can open Word and Excel files.
