Getting started with business rules

This tutorial introduces you to key features in Operational Decision Manager V8.10.5. You learn how to create, run, and monitor rules.

Before you start
Prepare for the tutorial by reading its description, and checking the audience and prerequisites.
Starting the Miniloan web application
You use the Miniloan application in a web browser to check a loan request. Miniloan demonstrates the use of business rules in an application.
Task 1: Designing the main rule project in the decision service
You create a vocabulary to write business rules. You use Rule Designer to create the vocabulary from the object model in the Miniloan application.
Task 2: Orchestrating the rules
You create a ruleflow to set the sequence in which the rules run.
Task 3: Authoring rules
You write an action rule and import other rules for your rule project.
Task 4: Testing and debugging
You run the ruleset by entering input data in a decision operation configuration, and then test and debug your ruleset.
Task 5: Deploying and running your ruleset
You deploy your ruleset to Rule Execution Server, and run it in the Miniloan application.
Task 6: Monitoring
You monitor a running ruleset by using the Rule Execution Server console. You use Decision Warehouse to audit and view stored decision traces.
Task 7: Publishing to Decision Center
You publish your rule project to Decision Center so that it can be used by business users.
