In Installation Manager you can choose the packages and products of Operational Decision Manager that you want to install. You must have a license for the products you intend to install.
Before you begin
Before starting the installation, you must download Operational Decision Manager and extract it using an archiving utility of your choice.
The product files are delivered as compressed TAR files. You must extract the files into the same directory to install them.
To avoid any problems with the extraction of the files, make sure that the path to the directory is short. For example, extract the TAR files to the root of your hard disk: C:/ODM801.
If you use WinZip to extract the TAR files, deselect TAR file smart CR/LF conversion in .
Installation Manager enables you to install only a subset of Operational Decision Manager. In Installation Manager, you can also customize your installation for specific configurations, for example:
- Extending an existing Eclipse.
- Installing Operational Decision Manager in another compatible IBM® product.
- Installing the archives for configuring an application server other than WebSphere® Application Server.
- Installing the local help system.
You can use Installation Manager to install Operational Decision Manager if you already have the prerequisite software installed, see Prerequisites.
The following figure shows the paths for installing using Installation Manager through the launchpad, or directly by adding the repository locations in the preferences of Installation Manager. If you do not have the prerequisites installed, use the launchpad to install the software required for the products that you want to install. However, if you have the prerequisites already installed, or if you want to install a part of a product that does not require any prerequisites, you can use Installation Manager directly. For example, if you want to install only Rule Designer.
IBM Operational Decision Manager is split into packages, which correspond to installable units also known as offerings:
- IBM Decision Center: An environment for business users to author, manage, and test business rules and event rules.
- IBM Decision Server: Development and runtime environments for business rules and business events.
- IBM Business Rules Embedded: Development environment for adding business rules functionality to applications. You need an IBM Decision Server license to use this offering.
To install the Operational Decision Manager packages, Installation Manager must access the repositories that contain the packages to install. When you use the product launchpad, Installation Manager already knows the repositories to use to install the products. However, if you are not using the launchpad you must specify in Installation Manager, the repository URLs.
After completing the installation of the products using Installation Manager, you still have to configure Decision Center and Decision Server to use Operational Decision Manager in production.
