Predictive Insights for IBM Performance Management

Overview

This accelerator helps users quickly integrate IBM Operations Analytics – Predictive Insights with IBM Performance Management (APM).  It includes a pre-built model for data ingestion, as well as integration into the IBM APM UI.

The model automatically consumes metrics for key IBM  Middleware Products including WAS, MQ, IIB, Db2.  In addition there is support for operating systems (Windows, Linux) and End User Response Time.

IBM Operations Analytics – Predictive Insights analyzes data and learns the normal behavior of a system. It can use data from various sources, and integrate with existing monitoring products. Operations Analytics – Predictive Insights creates a performance model and uses it to detect or forecast behavior outside the modeled range, and generate an alarm when this anomalous behavior occurs. It enables organizations to pro-actively avoid outages before users are impacted.

IBM Performance Management is a comprehensive solution that helps manage the performance and availability for complex applications that might be running in a data center, public cloud, or hybrid combination. This solution provides you with visibility of your applications, ensuring optimal performance and efficient use of resources. The Performance Management solution collects data from both Performance Management agents and Tivoli® Monitoring agents. Data is displayed in the Application Performance Dashboard for both Performance Management agents and their hybridized Tivoli Monitoring counterparts.

When you integrate Predictive Insights for IBM Performance Management, it collects monitoring metrics, analyzes this data, and learns the normal behavior of these monitored systems. Metrics collected by Performance Management are then compared to the normal learned behavior and alarms generated for anomalous behavior. Anomalies are communicated to the Performance Management user through the Performance Management Dashboard. Each anomaly will be shown as an event associated with the affected application, group, or component. You can then drill down to the Operations Analytics – Predictive Insights user interface to view more details.

Additional information

The accelerator requires deployment of IBM Operations Analytics – Predictive Insights and IBM Performance Management, using the recommended hardware. This extension is deployed within the Predictive Insights solution on the same hardware. Refer to the Hardware requirements and Software requirements sections for details.
