Streaming data with the IBM Tivoli Monitoring Log File Agent

To stream data to Log Analysis, you can configure and use the internal IBM® Tivoli® Monitoring Log File Agent that is installed during the installation of Log Analysis or you configure an external Log File Agent. The Log File Agent monitors logs and streams data from those logs to Log Analysis.

For more information about how to configure both types of LFA to stream data, see Configuring the Log File Agent.

You can use the remote installation utility to install an instance of the internal LFA on a remote server. The utility also helps you to configure Secure Shell (SSH) authentication. For more information, see Streaming data from multiple remote sources across a network.

You can also use an external Log File Agent to stream data from Windows or AIX® operating systems. This type of Log File Agent is referred to as an external Log File Agent. For more information, see Log File Agent deployment options.

If you want to group an explicit collection of configurations, you can also create subnodes. For more information, see Configuring Log File Agent subnodes
