Generate a data set

You can generate a one-time or recurring data set.

Before you begin

  • Refer to Types of data sets to learn more about each supported data set type and supported scopes.
  • Depending on the maximum file size for email attachments supported by your email provider, generated data set files exceeding 20MB may result in the email from the platform to fail. In this case, you must download the data set file directly from the portal.

Instructions

  1. Click Observability > Data sets.
  2. Click Generate Data Set.
  3. Enter a unique name for the data set (for internal reference).
  4. Under Data set content, select a Data type indicating the key metrics for this data set. Refer to Types of data sets for details.
  5. In Scope, indicate the range of DNS resources (zones and records) to include in this data set.
  6. Select an Output frequency, either one-time or recurring.
  7. If you selected Recurring, specify the following parameters:
    • Start date - Indicates the day (month, day, year) on which the first data set in this series should be generated.
    • Repeat every - Indicates the rate at which each data set in this series should be generated. Options include: every week, every month, or every year.
    • Stop after - Indicates the number of data sets to generate as part of this series. Options include: three or six data sets.
  8. Specify the Aggregation level of the data set content. This setting indicates how the query data will be organized in each output file. Options include:
    • Daily - The output shows query data for each day over the selected time period.
    • Monthly - The output shows query data for each month over the selected time period.
    • Billing period - The output shows query data for each billing period over the selected time period.
  9. Specify the Period of time the data set content should cover. Options vary based on the selected aggregation level. Note that the option you select is relative to the date on which the data set is generated.
  10. Optionally, enter one or more email recipients who should receive this data set once it has been generated. If this is a recurring data set, these recipients will receive the output each time the data set is generated.
  11. Indicate the file type to send as an attachment. Note that this option also determines the file type that will be available for download from the Data sets page.
  12. Click Generate. As the platform prepares the data set file, the status of the data set configuration is shown as Queued on the Data sets page. Once the file is ready, the status changes to Available at which point the data set file is available to download and, if applicable, any email recipients will receive the file. You may have to refresh the page to see the status changes.
Note: Data set files are available to download for up to one year after they are generated.
