Generating redirect data sets

Using the data set tool, you can generate a report to view details about incoming queries to your domains, including those that have been redirected based on your configurations.

Before you start, make sure that your user permission is set to Manage redirects.

  1. Navigate to Observability > > Data sets.
  2. Click Generate data set.
  3. Enter a name for the custom data set.
  4. Under Data type, select one of the following options:
    • Number of redirected requests - Total number of incoming requests that have been processed according to your redirect configuration details.
    • Average redirects per second - Average number of incoming requests per second that have been redirected based on your configurations.
    • Number of failed redirects - Total number of incoming requests corresponding to a domain for which there is a redirect configuration, but the request could not be redirected. This could provide insight to potential misconfiguration or gaps in your redirect definition. Remember, the structure of the incoming request must match the defined source URL(s) exactly so the request can be redirected appropriately.
    • Redirect configurations with zero requests - List of redirect configurations that have not been applied to any incoming requests. If a redirect has not been applied to incoming queries, it could indicate a conflicting record type for the corresponding domain. Certain record types (A, AAAA, CNAME, ALIAS) will take precedence over a REDIRECT record type, so you must delete these records. Alternatively, this could indicate that the redirects are no longer being used and can be deleted.
    • Full redirect request log - A detailed log of redirect-related requests.
  5. Select the scope of the DNS resources (zones and records) the generated data set should cover.
  6. Define the output frequency, one-time or recurring.
  7. Define the time frame of data contained within the data set. This setting determines how data is aggregated and the date range to include in the data set.
  8. Optionally, specify one or more email recipients to send the data set file to once it is generated as well as the file format.
  9. Click Generate.
