Monitoring cloud installation progress

Use this information as a guide to monitoring your cloud installation progress and validating the success of the installation.

About this task

During the cloud installation process, various pods start and move into Running or Completed state. The order of startup depends on the service with which the pod is associated. Examples of pod names within the different category are provided. Only a subset of pods is shown. The numbers shown in the pod name examples are purely random.
Table 1. Order of pod startup

The installation can take a number of hours depending on your network connection and the speed with which packages can be downloaded. Use this procedure to ensure that the installation progress is proceeding correctly and that it completes successfully.

Procedure

  1. After clicking the Create button to start the installation of your NOI instance, in the OLM user interface, navigate to Operators > Installed Operators, and check that the status of your Netcool Operations Insight instance is Phase: OK. Click on Netcool Operations Insight > All Instances to check it. This means that IBM® Cloud Pak for Watson™ AIOps Event Manager has started and is now in the process of starting up the various pods.
  2. Check the progress of the pod startup operations by running the following command:
    oc get pod
  3. Once pods in all of the installation phases listed in Table 1: Order of pod startup have Ready or Completed status, then retrieve the URLs for various Netcool Operations Insight components by running the following command and retrieving the URLs at the end of the output.
    oc describe noi
    or
    oc describe noihybrid
  4. Log in to each of the URLs and confirm that are able to log into the associated user interfaces.
