Creating incidents

You can manually create Netcool® Operations Insight® incidents from one or more events.

Creating a new incident

If you believe that multiple events form part of a single real-life incident, then you can create a new Netcool Operations Insight incident based on those events.

  1. In the Events page, select one or more events that are not part of an existing incident.

    A side panel containing multiple information sections opens in the table. The first section is called the Actions section and displays a set of actions that can be performed on the selected event.

  2. In the Actions section, click Create new incident.
  3. Type a textual description of the incident.
  4. Assign an incident priority from 1 to 5. The default setting is 5.
    Note: The lower the priority value, the more serious the incident. Check with your Operations team lead which priority value you should assign based on the seriousness of the incident.
  5. Click Run, to run the action, which in turn creates the incident.

Adding events to an existing incident

If you believe that one or more events belong together with an existing Netcool Operations Insight incident, then you can add those events to that incident.
  1. In the Events page, select one or more events that are not part of an existing incident.

    A side panel containing multiple information sections opens in the table. The first section is called the Actions section and displays a set of actions that can be performed on the selected event.

  2. In the Actions section, click Add to incident.
  3. Click Select the incident these events should be added to and select an incident.
  4. Click Run, to run the action, which in turn adds the event or events to the incident.
