Assigning runbooks to groups

Each runbook can be assigned to one or more groups, or left unassigned.

Before you begin

Runbooks can be assigned to user groups only if the respective feature is accessible by an administrator. If the feature is enabled and you want to check only what groups a runbook is assigned to, complete steps 1, 2, and 3 in Assigning runbooks. Do not make any changes.

About this task

By assigning runbooks to groups, you can organize runbooks in a more efficient manner. The two main reasons for assigning runbooks to groups are:
  • Groups determine the visibility of runbooks for operations analysts.
  • It is easier to find relevant runbooks in the Library page when Filtering runbooks by groups.

Enabling the feature

Procedure

  1. Go to the Runbook Library page.
  2. Click Configure settings next to the New runbook icon.
  3. Select the Allow users to assign runbooks to groups option.
  4. Save the changed setting.

Assigning runbooks

Procedure

  1. Go to the Library.
  2. Use the check boxes to select one or more runbooks.
  3. An action bar is displayed. The bar shows available actions and how many runbooks are selected.
  4. On the action bar, click Grant permission.
  5. Use check boxes to choose which groups the selected runbooks belong to. You can also select all or clear all groups by using the checkbox in the header row.
Note: Some checkboxes might appear selected, but dimmed. This intermediate state occurs when some (but not all) of the selected runbooks belong to the group.
  6. Click Assign to confirm the selection or select Close to discard any changes.
