Compatibility requirements

Make sure that you meet the requirements for supported platforms, topology databases, and the products that are integrated with Network Manager.

Important: This information applies to the latest version of Network Manager, Fix Pack 20. For information about previous Fix Packs, see Compatibility requirements for previous versions.

Supported operating systems

Network Manager supports Linux® , AIX® , and Linux on IBM z Systems.

VMware ESX

All supported versions of SuSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) and Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server are supported on VMware ESX.

AIX

Network Manager Fix Pack 20 supports the following versions of AIX iSeries and pSeries on IBM PowerPC®-based systems: 7.2, 7.3.

Ensure that you have either the unzip or GNU tar utilities installed so that you can uncompress the installation file. To install these utilities, go to: http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/power/software/aix/linux/toolbox/alpha.html.

Ensure that GTK2 is installed. To install GTK2, see the following technote: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21631478.

Red Hat Linux

Network Manager Fix Pack 20 supports the following versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server (x86-64) on Intel and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) x86 processors: 8.8, 8.9, 8.10, 9.2, 9.3, 9.4.

Network Manager components require the following libraries and any dependencies of these packages. Ensure you have these libraries on the system where you want to install Network Manager, or install the appropriate packages to obtain the required libraries. In addition to the libraries below, ensure that you have all required libraries for the appropriate versions of any integrated products. Specifically, check the requirements for your version of Jazz for Service Management in the Jazz for Service Management documentation at: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSEKCU, and for Cognos Analytics in the Cognos Analytics Knowledge Center at https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSEP7J.

SUSE Linux

Network Manager Fix Pack 20 supports the following versions of SuSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES): 12.0 SP5, 15.0 SP6.

Note: On Suse Enterprise Linux 15 SP4 as a non-root user, you must give o+rx permissions to the /usr/lib/sysimage/rpm/Packages and /usr/lib/sysimage/rpm/Name files before installing.

Linux on IBM z Systems

Network Manager Fix Pack 20 supports the following versions of Linux on IBM z Systems (s390x, 64 bit):

Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 9.3, 9.4.
SuSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 12.0 SP5, 15.0 SP6.

Refer to the Red Hat Linux and SUSE Linux sections for library requirements for these platforms.

Topology database

Network Manager Fix Pack 20 supports the following databases for use as the topology database:

IBM Db2® Version 10.5, 11.5 Enterprise Server Edition
Oracle Version 12c, 19c, 21c Enterprise Edition with Partitioning option

Important: All of the database systems cited above include table partitioning capability. The Oracle database systems require the Partitioning option to be included. Table partitioning is required for Network Manager to function properly.

When setting up failover, you can configure Network Manager to operate in the Db2 High Availability Disaster Recovery (HADR), or in the Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) environment, depending on your database. For more information, see Configuring failover.

Important: Ensure that your database has all the recommended patches applied, including the latest patch levels.

Products required by Network Manager

The following products and components are required by Network Manager. Network Manager requires specific versions of these products.

Note: If you use Network Manager as part of a solution, you must also check the compatibility of the versions of all component products in the solution documentation. For example, if you use Netcool Operations Insight, check the product and component version matrix for your version of Netcool Operations Insight at https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSTPTP.

Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus

Network Manager Fix Pack 20 requires the following version of Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus: V8.1.0.32.

Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus Web GUI

Network Manager Fix Pack 20 supports one of the following versions of Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus Web GUI: 8.1 Fix Pack 35.

IBM Websphere Application Server

Network Manager Fix Pack 20 requires one of the following versions of IBM® Websphere Application Server: 8.5.5.26, or 9.0.5.21.

Note: If you want to use WebSphere Application Server version 9, you must have a new installation of WebSphere Application Server version 9, Network Manager Fix Pack 11 and Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus Web GUI Version 8.1.0.20 or later. This is because the upgrade path is not available for WebSphere Application Server from version 8 to version 9.

Jazz for Service Management

Network Manager Fix Pack 20 requires one of the following versions of Jazz for Service Management: V1.1.3.22.

Dashboard Application Services Hub

Network Manager Fix Pack 20 requires one of the following versions of Dashboard Application Services Hub: V1.1.3.22.

IBM Websphere SDK

Network Manager requires a compatible version of the IBM Websphere SDK Java™ Technology Edition to be installed if you are using IBM Websphere Application Server Version 9. Websphere Version 8 installs its own SDK.

IBM Installation Manager

Network Manager Fix Pack 20 requires IBM Installation Manager V1.9.3.0. On SuSE Linux V11 and V12 for System z, only the 32-bit version of IBM Installation Manager is supported.

Java Runtime Environment (JRE)

Network Manager Fix Pack 20 requires Java 8. The necessary Java Development Kit is available in the package to use WebSphere Application Server.

If you do not have the correct version of Java, you might see an error message similar to the following:

ERROR: IBM WebSphere SDK Java Technology Edition is not installed or selected to be installed.

Requirements for products that are compatible with Network Manager

Important: These requirements are in addition to any other hardware, software, installation directory, user or other requirements discussed in the individual product documentation. Ensure that you are familiar with all of the requirements and prerequisites before installing any product.

Cognos Analytics: If you want to run reports, and you install Network Manager Reports, Network Manager Fix Pack 20 requires Cognos Analytics V11. Tivoli Common Reporting is not supported.
Important: Ensure that you have at least 17GB of free space in the location where you want to install Cognos Analytics.
IBM Tivoli Netcool Configuration Manager: Network Manager supports IBM Tivoli Netcool Configuration Manager 6.4.2 or later.
IBM Tivoli Monitoring: Network Manager is compatible with IBM Tivoli Monitoring version 6.3 FP 2 or later on AIX, Linux, or Windows. The Agent itself (IBM Tivoli Monitoring for IBM Tivoli Network Manager IP Edition) only runs on Linux and AIX, because Windows is not a supported platform for Network Manager 4.2.
IBM Tivoli Business Service Manager: Network Manager supports IBM Tivoli Business Service Manager 6.2.
IBM Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager and IBM Tivoli Change and Configuration Management Database: Network Manager supports IBM Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager and IBM Tivoli Change and Configuration Management Database 7.2.1 or later.
