Context-sensitive discovery
If you need to discover devices that support multiple contexts, you must run a context-sensitive discovery. For example, a device that uses separate SNMP contexts to provide access to its virtual routers. Context-sensitive discovery ensures correct representation of context-accessible virtual devices. Always check that your particular device type is supported for discovery.
In a context-sensitive discovery, information about a device is
passed from the returns
table of the Details agent
to the despatch
table of the relevant Context agent.
The Context agents use the filters in the .agnt
files of the agents to
determine which devices to process. This approach is true for all discovery agents. If the device is
not of a type that supports context-accessible virtual devices, that is, does not need
context-sensitive processing, it is passed directly to the Associated Address agent.
