Identifying agent activity for a device

You can investigate which agents contributed data to the discovery of a particular device. You can see information including which agents were run on a device, and how long they took to retrieve data.

About this task

To run the Device Investigator tool on a device, complete the following steps.

Procedure

  1. Ensure that the Network Manager core components are running.
  2. In the Network Hop View, locate the device you want to check, and right-click it.
  3. Select Webtools > Generic Tools > Device Investigator.

Results

A new window opens, showing agent information, including the following:

  • The IP address of the device.
  • The number of agents enabled for discovery.
  • Remote and Local Neighbor data at the base record level for all other agents (not agent specific).
  • The Rejected Agents, that is, those agents that were enabled but did not pass the filters to be run on the device.
  • The Processed Agents, that is, those agents that were run on the device.
  • The Key data despatched to agents, that is, a summary of the information retrieved from the Details agent that was given to the other agents.
  • The time that each agent started and finished processing.
