Manage tables

You can create, access, and manipulate tables by using SQL commands.

Create a table
To create a table, specify the table name, the column names, and their types. You can enter a table line by line.

To empty a table, use the TRUNCATE command.
Rename a table
You can change the name of a table without changing any of the data. The data remains the same type and size.
Change table ownership
Insert rows into a table
To populate a table, use the INSERT command. The INSERT command adds new rows to a table. You can insert rows by using column positions, column names, or by inserting rows from one table to another.

Update table rows
To change the value of rows in an existing table, use the UPDATE command. You can update specific rows or all the rows in a table.
Delete rows from tables
To remove rows from a table, use the DELETE command. You can use the DELETE command to remove specific rows or all rows from a table.
Change or drop a column default value
You can use the ALTER TABLE command to change or drop the default value of a column, which affects future inserts into the table.
Change the length of a varchar column
You can use the ALTER table command to change the length of a varchar column. You can increase the length of a varchar column to a maximum size of 64,000.
Change a column name
You can change the name of table columns without changing any of the data. The data remains the same type and size. You must be the owner of the table or have the Alter privilege on tables to change the name of table columns.
