Third-party backup and recovery solutions support

Deployment options: Netezza Performance Server for Cloud Pak for Data System Netezza Performance Server for Cloud Pak for Data

On Netezza Performance Server, you can use the nzbackup and nzrestore commands to save data to and restore data from network-accessible file systems, which is the default behavior for the backup and restore commands. You can also use these commands with supported third-party backup and recovery products.

The Netezza Performance Server system currently offers support for the following backup and recovery solutions:
  • Symantec NetBackup
  • IBM® Tivoli® Storage Manager
  • EMC NetWorker
Important: If you are on Netezza Performance Server that is installed on Cloud Pak for Data System 2.X, you must install the tools yourself. For more information, see Installing third-party software.

If you have one of these backup and recovery solutions in your environment, you can integrate Netezza Performance Server with these solutions to manage the backup and restoration services for your system and database. These backup and recovery products have their own storage devices, file systems, and data clients. They manage the backup and restoration of files and databases to and from these managed storage devices.

To use these solutions, you typically install some client software for the solution onto the Netezza Performance Server host, and then configure some files and settings to create a connection to the third-party server. You might also complete some configuration steps on the third-party server to identify and define the host as a client to that server. The installation and configuration steps vary for each solution.

You can use the NetBackup and Tivoli Storage Manager interfaces to schedule and perform all supported backup and restore operations. You do not have to log on to the Netezza Performance Server host to perform a backup operation, or to write the backup archive to the host disk or a mount.

The sections, which describe the nzbackup and nzrestore commands also describe how some of the command options work with the supported storage manager solutions.
