Backup options overview
Netezza Performance Server contains data that is critical to the operation of the system and to the user databases and tables. The data includes the catalog metadata, the user databases and tables, and access information such as users, groups, and global permissions. Netezza Performance Server provides a set of commands to back up and restore this information, as described in the following table.
| Information | Backup | Restore |
|---|---|---|
| Netezza Performance Server host data (catalog metadata) | nzhostbackup | nzhostrestore |
| User databases | nzbackup | nzrestore |
| Netezza Performance Server users, groups, and permissions | nzbackup | nzrestore |
The backup processes do not back up host software such as the Linux® operating system files or any applications that you might install on the Netezza Performance Server host. If you accidentally delete Linux host operating system or firmware files, contact IBM Support for assistance in restoring them.
The nzbackup and nzrestore commands do not back up the analytic executable objects that are created by the IBM Netezza Appliance and IBM Netezza Appliance Analytics feature. If you use the analytics features on your system, make sure to back up the databases, users, and global objects (by using nzbackup), the host metadata (by using nzhostbackup) and the analytic executable objects (by using inzabackup).
The Netezza Performance Server backup and restore operations can use Network File System locations and several third-party solutions as destinations. For example, IBM® Spectrum Protect (formerly Tivoli® Storage Manager), Veritas NetBackup, EMC NetWorker, and cloud storages (AWS S3, IBM Cloud Storage and Azure Blob Storage).
