Setting Event Viewer widget preferences

To customize the appearance and setup of the Event Viewer widget, edit the widget preferences.

Before you begin

Define the tools that you want to run from click-actions.

Procedure

  1. Open an Event Viewer widget.
  2. Edit your widget preferences, or, as an administrator, edit the widget defaults:
    • To edit your widget preferences, click Page Actions Page Action icon > Personalize Page > Widget > Personalize.
    • Instructions for
Administrators. To edit the widget defaults of all users, click Page Actions Page Action icon > Edit Page > Widget > Edit.
Note: The Widget button is enabled after a widget is selected. If Event Viewer is the only widget on the page, you can select the widget by clicking the thin cyan line between the widget pallet and the Event Viewer widget.
  3. In the Data tab, set the following preferences:
    Data Provider
Select a Data Provider as the data source that will expose event data to the Event Viewer.
    Refresh rate (seconds)
Type the rate, in seconds, at which the Event Viewer retrieves new event data from the data source.
    Minimum refresh rate (seconds)
    Instructions for
Administrators.Type a minimum refresh time. Event Viewer users cannot specify a refresh rate that is lower than this time. The minimum refresh time can be set only as a widget default for all users, that is, on the Edit shared settings page. The minimum refresh time is useful for ensuring system performance if event volumes are high.

fp13Use CURI mode for events
By default, this check-box preference is not selected. You can only configure this check-box if the WEBGUI_HOME/etc/server.init file has a property value of eventviewer.data.provider.mode:0.
    • The default behavior is for the Use CURI mode for events preference check-box in the Event Viewer widget to be unselected. This preference selection uses AEL EDS mode to download events from the server for the Event Viewer and the following properties are enabled.
      • ael.top-n.value:-1
      • ael.top-n.mode:0
      • ael.top-n.refresh:0
    • When you select the Use CURI mode for events preference check-box in the Event Viewer widget, you enable CURI mode as the method to download events from the server for the Event Viewer and the following properties are enabled.
      • eventviewer.pagesize.max:20000
      • eventviewer.refresh.mode:0
If you want to reduce the load on your web browser, enable this check-box preference. If you enable this preference, the following behavior can also display.
    • The browser cache has only a subset of events at one time, which can require extra requests to the server during scrolling.
    • An extra server-side copy of the events for this session and every other CURI mode session exists. This behavior is similar to older architecture.
    Filter
Select filter that is applied to the Event Viewer when it is opened. Ensure that the filter is associated with the data source that provides the event date to the Event Viewer.
    Filter SQL
    Resolved from fix pack
2Type the SQL syntax that is used to create a transient filter. When the filter string is applied to an Event Viewer, only the rows that meet the criteria set by the filter are displayed. If any value is typed in this field, the Filter list is disabled.
    Transient filter name
    Resolved from fix pack
2Type the name to assign to the transient filter generated by the SQL expression in the Filter SQL field. This name is displayed as the title for the associated Event Viewer. If any value is typed in this field, the Filter list is disabled.
    View
Select a view to apply to the Event Viewer. The view determines the columns that appear in the Event Viewer and overrides any default view that is defined for the filter.
    Data Sources
    Resolved from fix pack
2Select one or more data sources from which the event data is retrieved. At least one data source must be selected, otherwise an error message is displayed when you click Save.

If another tool is assigned for a single-click action, that tool will run, and automatic sending of a NodeClickedOn event will then not be performed.

  6. In the BiDi Settings tab, specify the settings for the display of bidirectional text:
    Component direction

    Text direction
Select the direction of text on the widget. The default settings use the value that is defined for the page or the console. If the page and console both use the default setting, the locale of your browser determines the text direction. The Contextual Input setting displays text that you enter in the appropriate direction for your globalization settings.

Any change that you make to these settings is effective only if you enabled bidirectional support in your user preferences. Changes come into effect the next time you use the widget.

  7. Click Save to save and apply the new settings.
  8. To restore the default widget settings, click Reset to default settings.
