OOBC installation fails when using AIX 7.1

Installation of OOBC on AIX® 7.1 can fail if TL 1 Service Pack (SP) 2 is not applied.

Symptom

The installer exits without installing OOBC, and the following message is written to the console:

Error: Port Library failed to initialize
Could not create the Java virtual machine.

Probable cause

Your AIX operating system is AIX 7.1 Technology Level (TL) 0 or 1, Service Pack 0 or 1.

Solution

To determine the level of your operating system, you can run the following command.

oslevel -s

You will see a result like, for example:

7100-01-01-1141

This is TL 1 (second number), SP 1 (third number).

To fix this error, upgrade AIX 7.1 to TL 1 SP2 or later.
