You can classify Items to identify and characterize similar
items. Classification makes simple reporting and similar
activities.
You classify items on the Specification tab
of the Item Master application or the Service Items application.
Classification types
Global classifications and customer-specific
classifications are the two types of classifications. Both classification types can be applied to
an item. No customer validation is done when you apply a
customer-specific classification to an item. If the item is a rotable and you associate it with a
customer-specific asset, the classification is validated when it is copied from the item to the asset.
Attributes of item classifications
Attributes define the
characteristics of a classification. When you classify an item, attributes of the
classification are copied to the Specification tab. Global attributes and
customer-specific attributes are the two types of attributes. Both attribute types are added to the
item. No customer validation is done when you apply a customer-specific attribute to
an item. If the item is a rotable and you
associate it with a customer-specific asset, the attributes are filtered when they are copied from
the item to the asset.
